Grief is difficult. The period of mourning following a loss is one of the hardest things we’ll ever experience, however it’s also necessary in the healing process.

In addition to all of the difficult feelings, this time includes some of our most powerful moments. We recall and relive the joyous memories and we are typically quite present with our emotions. It is in this state that we can begin to uncover what is most meaningful and fulfilling for our lives.

I discovered my life’s mission during a period of grief just a few months ago. Our cat Luigi, who adopted me 12 years ago, was very ill with cancer and it was his time to pass peacefully. While helping him during his final days and mourning his passing in the weeks and months since, I came to a crucial realization that my calling is to help cats in need – thus my mission to build a nonprofit for cats.

Today is his adoption anniversary, and while it is the first that we will not be able to celebrate with him 💔, he lives on through the affects he’s had on us all, and especially in guiding me to my purpose. I hope that in sharing this, you are able to look at grief in a new light and grow from the experience, while also understanding that it is often in our most difficult times that we find the answers we’re looking for.
