When we start up a new project in the hopes of making an impact it can be quite intimidating to think in terms of the eventual scale we want to have. Sure, at some point we want to reach millions of people and change millions of lives for the better.
But… this is our ramen phase, meaning we’re not there yet. So where do we even start? How do we get to that goal of helping so many?
We focus on helping just one person first. Just one.

Think about your mission and goals. What is it that you’re trying to accomplish? Who are you trying to reach? Envision that key person in your mind, the one struggling with the problem for which you have the solution, the one who’s been looking for you all along.
This person is your audience, your customer, your student. Whatever your business model or organizational structure, keep this one person in mind and show up every day to serve them. Just that one.
If you know someone personally who fits your criteria, you may find it helpful to envision that specific person as you craft your content.
As you create your offers, promotional materials, and lessons around this one person, eventually you will find that there are many people like them. Your focus will expand to serve all of the people with that similar problem, need, or interest.
But don’t start there. Start with just one.
